Bloomfield Avenue, Luton
Bloomfield Avenue, Luton has produced three new houses for Luton Community Housing Association all of which have achieved Level 4 under the Code for Sustainable Homes.
The three properties were traditionally constructed Social Housing on a restricted site, formerly containing domestic garage units.
In accordance with instructions from our clients, we investigated the use and suitability of ground source heat pumps for the scheme, including a visit to the manufacturer’s premises, which resulted in the integration of the heat pumps into the design by the Project’s Architects, Triad Planning and Design.
Agreement was required from the Environment Agency due to the presence of an acquifer beneath the chalk under the site, and three bore holes were piled, each to a depth of approximately 90 metres, which enabled the heat source pumps to operate at extremely high efficiency. Effectively the heat pumps reduced the carbon emissions under current Building Regulations by a further 44%.
This is the fourth scheme that we have carried out with LCHA and the site at Bloomfield Avenue is the natural progression of the Partnership that has developed.
